Bermondsey Market in London

20 Agosto 2017

Every Friday Bermondsey Square comes to life as traders from all over the country come to stall out. You will find a vast array of curios and fab items.

Bermondsey has had a huge facelift over the last few years and has become a very lively part of London. New apartments, cafes, restaurants etc, and the development of Bermondsey Square is no exception, but Bermondsey Antique Market has survived! The market has been on this site since the 1950’s.

The market is a stones throw from London Bridge Station, the Borough and a leisurely stroll from Tower Bridge. It has a wide range of antiques from cutlery to furniture, china to jewellery.

Many of the traders have been at the market for years and are a good source of information. The market has a international reputation and is visited by antiques enthusiasts both from within the UK and those on holiday to the UK.

It’s open every Friday from 6am to 2pm.

Bermondsey is one of the oldest parts of Southwark with evidence of Roman occupation. Bermondsey’s Thameside location made it an important transport hub for the trade of all manner of goods. It’s success caused The City to enforce restrictions (to preserve its dominance) and earned Bermondsey the nick-name ‘London’s Larder’ due to the amount of food stuffs that passed through it’s docks.

The site where Bermondsey Square is today is best known as the site of Bermondsey Abbey which at it’s height rivalled nearby Westminster Abbey and was an economic powerhouse as well as a spiritual one.

Bermondsey Antiques Market has a wide range of antiques. Traders sell everything from cutlery to furniture and china to jewellery. A treat to explore, the antiques market is popular with antique traders, tourists and bargain hunters alike. You will find great expertise amongst the antiques traders, many of whom have been coming to Bermondsey Square for years. For further information or esquires about trading at the market, please contact the organiser Mike Collins.
